Back in 2007, I wrote and recorded a music video entitled “Angel’s Lament.” It was, and still is, a song of protest against the exploitation of the political poor, and the outright abuse, prejudice and bigotry of human rights, not only here at home but around the world. Hence, why the angels may be in lament.
It is questionable whether things are much better in 2023. However, I do believe that stronger minds and the spiritual will, will prevail.

ANGEL’S LAMENT

Stop the war and stop the fighting,
Stop the bloodshed all around.
Put your guns down and listen,
Do you hear that awful sound?
It’s the cry of little children,
Whose moms and dads were taken away
It’s the cry of mothers weeping,
For their children in the grave.
Chorus:
If there’s a hell, it’s here on earth
Seems no one gives a damn,
Might makes right is the battle cry,
Hooray! For Uncle Sam!
What we claim in the name of God
And Justice isn’t true,
Lies on lies and cover-ups
No longer fool,….me and you.
Oil is cause for Jihad
When it serves political gain,
Human rights are not important
Has the whole world gone insane!
Rwanda and Darfur doesn’t matter
Though it leaves a bloody trail,
History will not be kind to us
Because we’ve sold out-tooth and nail!
Bigotry and Prejudice
Run rampant through our towns
Lord have mercy! The righteous say,
Get the gays and run ’em down!
Skin color shouldn’t matter,
Or our sexual preference.
Love shows no partiality
And lives without pretense (chorus)
There’s food galore to feed the hungry,
But it rots in political waste,
There is shelter for the homeless,
But it has a double-face.
Children are our greatest treasure,
And their reward is abuse;
No reason a child should suffer
It’s their future we must choose.
Doesn’t matter how we worship,
How we pray or meditate;
Mohamed, Jesus and Buddha
Are God’s chosen advocates;
There is only ONE Creator
Who alone loves us ALL
That should be our sacred mantra
That should be our wake-up call.
Bridge:
If justice is to happen,
If peace can take a stance,
Do away with our bigotry
Turn fighting into dance!
Know we all are family,
All share Creation’s seed
All for One, One for All
Should be…our only creed.
